We have found that the new version of Internet Explorer prevents us from using the status bar. To switch this back on again you need to change a security setting. At the bottom right of the screen there is a world and the word Internet.
Double click here to bring up your security settings dialogue box. Now click the 'Custom level ...' button. The next dialog allows you to set Internet Explorer 7 back to the way it used to be by scrolling almost to the bottom and changing the setting for 'Allow Status Bar updates via script' from Disable to Enable as shown here
Click okay to accept your new setting on this and the security settings dialogue box. Unfortunately, this change affects all websites and not just ours. Microsoft introduced it because the status bar displays the destination address of a link when you move the mouse over it and this helps you to know that you will go to the page you want and not be redirected to a page of 'spam'. We understand Microsoft's concern and can assure you that we support safer surfing. It is generally accepted, however, that the address bar at the top of your web browser page shows the address of the page you are visiting and this should be used instead of the status bar at the bottom of the page. We feel that it is an acceptable option for you to decide to allow us to continue to display messages along the status bar. |
